Ever since he was a little child, Joey has a strong passion for drawing and painting. To pursue this passion, he started working for an interior design company as an office assistant immediately after graduating from high school in Hong Kong. After 12 years of learning and working extensively in the industry, he decided to go back to school and pursue a career as a Registered Interior Designer in Canada.
In 1990, he studied interior design at Georgian College of Applied Arts & Technology in Barrie, Ontario and graduated with a Diploma in Interior Design with Honors. Joey then furthered his studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, Ontario (formerly Ryerson University) and graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Interior Design in 1994. Upon graduation, he accepted a job as an Interior Designer in Vancouver, British Columbia.
He incorporated Joey Chan & Associates Inc. (JCA) in August 1996 to do what he truly loves: assist people to create their dream home. Over the years JCA had received numerous prestigious awards including the Georgie Awards from The Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia (CHBA-BC) and Award of Excellence from Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia (IDIBC). Joey finally became a Registered Interior Designer in April 2001 from The National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).
With Joey’s knowledge and achievements, he branched out to different aspects to inspire others. He hosted a 10-episode Interior Design TV Program in both Cantonese & Mandarin, produced and broadcasted by Fairchild Television throughout Canada. Then he was a color consultant for a prominent Chinese paint company where he gave lectures to other interior designers & decorators. In addition he was a guest speaker at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and various universities in Chengdu, Wuhan and Shenyang, where he shared his own experience with interior design students. And finally, he published his very first book “HOME interior design is you” with encouragement of his younger brother Matthew and friends.
